taking a knee seems like such a reverent statement of protest for the senseless loss of black lives - it reminds me of Arnold Friberg's painting of George Washington kneeling in prayer at Valley Forge

Hamilton Schmamilton

Hamilton Schmamilton

The way the Hamilton poster uses Hamilton's figure for the top of the star made me think, what else could top the star? A witch's hat. Who played the most iconic witch ever?

Max

Max

After 3 years of tutoring young people with dyslexia, I'm tempted to describe it as a brain difference that makes people funnier, more clever, and better looking, but it makes reading a belittling, frustrating challenge. For them. To the listener, every sentence is an adventure, a minefield we can actually help them navigate successfully. During the moments a student is decoding a text, I doodle, on anything handy. These are all on 3" X 5" index cards. I'm posting them because one of my students told me it's been awhile since I put up anything new. My students are always trying to teach me. Sometimes I learn.

cedar tailwing? knotty pinetail?

cedar tailwing? knotty pinetail?

Making some bird pieces. This one is carved from a piece of cedar I found on a walk years ago that looked like the head of a golf club with a bit of the handle. It was hard knotty wood but I was able to carve it without breaking the tail somehow. It smelled so good while I was carving

Christmas puzzle

Christmas puzzle

It started with the scrap from one of the boys wood models, similar to the one top L. in the photo, cut into over 100 pieces, rough edges sanded, and a 2' x 2' plywood board from the garage, stained with some red and prussian blue paint. The idea was a puzzle with no predetermined solution. Sam and Danny did helicopters and patterns that inspired the final spiraling design
