how hard

Graphic novelist James Sturm has a thought-provoking article - illustrated with some good cartoons - about trying to get a cartoon accepted at the New Yorker (at least it was for me, 'cause I'm trying the same). Reading the comments was like a walk through familiar territory: the different tastes expressed on this cartoon or that, the consoling and encouraging remarks, the defensive identification with the artist, the verbal pats-on-the-head, and the summary judgments made.
